Rock Farm Visits

We organise monthly trips to Rock Farm (even in Autumn and Winter - because getting outside in the colder months is important too!). These trips are FREE to attend for residents of Moulsecoomb, Bevendean and surrounding estates - although donations are welcome. They include a delicious lunch and transport by minibus.

Rock Farm is a working market garden, community space and horticultural therapy project on the 6-acre site near Steyning and Horsham operated by One Church Brighton.” - Brighton & Hove Food Partnership.

The aim of these trips is to show people living in the city what can be grown on our doorsteps. Rock Farm also grows some of the vegetables that end up in our veg boxes, so it’s nice for our customers to see where and how it’s grown.

As well as being really inspirational for those of us who like regenerative/organic farming, it’s also just a lovely day out in nature and a great way to connect with and meet new people.

Nikki, who works at the farm, is our brilliant host who leads us round the polytunnels, showing how things change in different seasons. As we walk round, we pick and taste different things (a favourite activity amongst the children). When there is an abundance of something we are able to take some home but we always pick something for lunch, which is cooked by Nikki over the fire. The food is wholesome and vegetarian and there is always plenty!

What to expect:

A relaxing morning out of the city, it takes around 25 minutes by minibus from Moulsecoomb. Cups of tea, sitting round the fire or helping to cook, exploring the farm and seeing what’s growing, picking and tasting veg as we go, cuddles with Percy the Cat round the fire or exploring with little ones to find the swing.

If you have ANY accessibility needs please let us know, the ground is uneven in places but if we know what you need we will support you to come.

To book a space for the APRIL 11th or MAY 9th trips please email verylocalfoodhubs@gmail.com
